Eglanton Thorne

Eglanton Thorne was the pen name of Elizabeth Emily Charlton (1852–1907), a prolific Victorian‑era writer best known for more than fifty works of Christian children’s and young‑adult fiction published chiefly by the Religious Tract Society. Born in Totteridge, England, Charlton was the daughter of Congregational minister Rev. John M. Charlton and saw her first story published at age eleven. Raised in England’s West Country before spending most of her adult life in London—where she volunteered with a West London mission—she never married and died on 17 September 1907 in Plymouth.
