Rev. W. A. McKay was a Canadian Presbyterian minister, author, and advocate for Christian moral reform. Born in Ontario on March 11, 1842, he was the eldest of seven brothers, five of whom entered the Presbyterian ministry. After several years as a schoolteacher, McKay studied at the University of Toronto, graduating in 1869 with distinction in Oriental languages, logic, metaphysics, and ethics, and later completed his theological training at Knox College. Ordained in 1870, he served several Ontario congregations before becoming pastor of Chalmers Church in Woodstock in 1878. McKay was also active in the temperance movement and contributed frequently to the press. Among his best-known writings were Outpourings of the Spirit, widely circulated in the United States, and A Discussion of Baptism from the Paedo-Baptist Standpoint, which achieved substantial circulation in Canada.
