Thomas Boston

Thomas Boston (1676–1732) was a Scottish Presbyterian minister and theologian known for his significant contributions to Reformed theology in Scotland. Born in Duns, Berwickshire, he was educated at the University of Edinburgh and ordained as a minister in the Church of Scotland. Boston served congregations in Simprin and later in Ettrick, where he spent the majority of his ministry.

He is the author of several influential works, among which The Art of Man-Fishing holds a special place. Written early in his career, this treatise delves into the spiritual and practical aspects of evangelism, drawing inspiration from the biblical metaphor of "fishers of men." In it, Boston emphasizes the importance of sincere preaching, personal piety, and the minister's role in guiding souls toward salvation.
