The purpose of this work is to gather a summary of the lives, character, and struggles of several well-known Scots Worthies, who are remembered for their faithful service, zeal, endurance in suffering, and other Christian virtues. They deserve great honor in the church of Christ, and their names will continue to be cherished by all who love our Zion, as long as the principles of the Reformation are valued in Scotland.

At first, some might be surprised to see someone as unknown as myself taking on a task like this, especially when there are others more suited for it. However, my respect for these Worthies, the connection my ancestors had with some of them, and my love for the cause they defended, drive me to offer this work. If these reasons aren’t enough to justify my effort, I ask for your patience as I explain the purpose and usefulness of this publication, which I hope will excuse me.
